Relic

I finished Relic today and, well, meh.

It wasn't quite as bad as I remembered it, but I am marking it down now that there is no need to go back to it.

I don't know what exactly didn't work for me, but, damn. It just didn't work.

Apparently, there's a sequel to it. I don't think I'm going to read it. Instead, I'm going straight to The Cabinet of Curiosities.

I'm a rebel.

Retired my ass.

I finished Stephen King's Cell over the weekend, and I was pleasently surprised.

I've been a King fan forever (and that's a mighty long time!), but let's face it, aside from the Dark Tower series, he's been lacking in the scares for the past 10 years. No, he hasn't completely sucked, but something has been missing.

I started Cell with not excitement (like I do with a Laymon or a Crais), but more of a sense of obligation. Kind of like when you have a favorite band, the band had a bunch of GREAT CDs from early on, but their later work started to suffer. You still buy their CDs, but you don't have that excitement to listen to it right away (have I used this analogy before?). Anyway, it's kind of like that.

But, wow, I was blown away. No, the book isn't that good. I was blown away because the book is, well, good.

From the opening pages, shit hits the fan when people start going absolutely insane--killing each other by any means necessary.

Come to find out, a pulse is being broadcast through cell phones making people crazy. Clay, a man who doesn't own a cell phone, figures out early on what the deal is and must make his way back home. To his son.

Yep, it's a long journey by foot (as the roads are clogged with car jams) in an apocalyptic type world populated by the insane.

It's been a long while since I enjoyed a King novel as much as Cell.

Welcome back, Mr. King.
